Jiroemon has fathered seven children, five of whom are surviving and 15 grandchildren – along with 25 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren. He worked for the post office for 40 years and turned to farming during his retirement until the age of 90. Jiroemon – who survived Kyoto's devastating 7.6-magnitude earthquake in 1927 which killed over 3,000 people – says small portions of food are the secret to long life. Former world's oldest person Dina Manfredini lived at the Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston, Iowa, and died on Monday morning after suffering from a fever.
